Carteret Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association Local #67 (FMBA Local #67) is the Union organization that represents the Boroughs 25 Fire Officers, Firefighters and EMT’s who supply Fire, Rescue, Emergency Medical Services and Code Enforcement to the citizens and visitors of Carteret. The members of FMBA Local #67 protect a population of approximately 24,000 residents occupying an area of 4.4 square miles in Middlesex County New Jersey. Our members responded to a total of 2647 calls for emergency assistance during the year 2010 and a total of 2851 calls for emergency assistance during the year 2011. Carteret has enjoyed a rich history entwined with many heavy industries. Several petro-chemical storage facilities call Carteret their home. The Fire Department also protects the coastline with the Arthur Kill and several miles of north and south bound traffic of the New Jersey Turnpike, which is 14 lanes wide in our response area.

We also are responsible for staffing the Fire Prevention Bureau which serves as the local enforcing agency of the New Jersey State Fire Prevention Code and performs over 500 annual inspections within the city limits. The Bureau is responsible for investigating all fires in the City and also conducts fire prevention education throughout the community.

Carteret FMBA Local #67 is also active in the community. The members of FMBA Local #67 conduct an extensive community outreach program annually, our programs are designed to impact our most vulnerable citizens. Our members working in conjunction with our community leaders and fire department command staff proactively seek changes that will improve the lives of the citizens we serve and the working conditions of those whose duty it is to serve you.

The primary objectives of our organization are monitoring and improving public safety and firefighter safety and maintaining a cooperative labor management relationship with Carteret’s administrators and elected leaders.

As a public safety union, we carry greater responsibilities in the community. As one of our core responsibilities, Carteret FMBA Local #67 is an advocate for the health and safety of the citizens of Carteret. We are continually working with Management to bring new and innovative programs to the residents without additional cost.

The mission of our State organization, the New Jersey State FMBA, is to educate, involve and affect those civilians who reside and work in New Jersey; to adopt fire safety practices and procedures that prevent and mitigate human and economic losses arising from the devastating effects of fire. The State FMBA proudly administers the New Jersey State FMBA Foundation with the goal of providing financial assistance to children who are enrolled in both the Connecticut Burn Camp and who have been treated at St. Barnabas Burn Center with fire related injuries. Our other beneficiaries include the Make-a-Wish Foundation, the Leukemia Society, Autism Awareness and Save the Children.
